At this year’s New York Auto Salon, the Koreans came up with an accessible sportive version of the 4 doors coupe Hyundai Sonata. This version called Hyundai Sonata Turbo ids equipped with a direct injection and a 2.0 liters twin-turbo system. This system develops 274 HP and a maximum torque of 364 Nm gained between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm, which promise an excellent elasticity. The fuel consumption is also announced to be very good, of only 34 mpg on the highway. The price will start from a value which will give the concurrency headaches – somewhere under $25,000.
The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Turbo with an over alimented 2.0 liters engine, was launched at the New York Auto Salon after a previous announcement made at the Los Angeles Auto Salon. The guys at Hyundai said then they are preparing more powerful version based on the 4 cylinders engine. Speculations have been made over the power developed by an over alimented engine, but now the things clarified: the new 2.0 liters engine really develops 274 HP.
Thanks to the new engine Theta II, the new Sonata Turbo model is superior to many V6 engine models. The fuel consumption is decent, regarding the fact that we are dealing a consumption of 10.5 liters in the city and 7 liters in extra-urban areas. The new Sonata Turbo is part of the Blue Drive project, through which Hyundai wants to offer cars with great performances at low levels of consumption and carbon emissions. The new Theta II engine used by Hyundai offers a maximum torque between 1800 and 4500 rpm. This new engine is equipped with a turbo system resembling the one used by BMW on the new 535i.
The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Turbo has also an automatic transmission in 6 gears. The paddles for changing the gears are situated on the steering wheel, giving the driver a more sportive sensation. The turbo version will also get a panoramic panel and a sportive system. This version of Sonata was prepared by the ones at RIDES and 0-60 Magazine and it looks like the designers inspired from Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes models. This customized model of Sonata comes equipped with many features which offer him not only a sportive looks, but also more power.
