The vehicle has a wheelbase that is approximately 6 inches longer than what is utilized in the sedan version of the 5 Series. The Gran Turismo boasts a steeply raked hatch with a small trunk at the end that is similar in design to that on the sedan models. 18 inch alloy wheels are incorporated as standard on this vehicle.

This vehicle can accommodate 4 to 5 people, this is all dependent on the configuration set at the backseats, while the trunk offers an adequate amount of storage space measuring 15.5 cubic feet. If the seats are folded down in a 40/20/40 ratio it can allow for up to an impressive 60 cubic feet of trunk space.

Some of the interior features included within the Gran Turismo are the “Black Panel” gauge that is borrowed from the 7 Series. This enables an electroluminescent display for all of the usual gauges displayed throughout the vehicle. Another feature incorporated is the iDrive system, this is an upgraded version that has been utilized in various older BMW models.

The Gran Turismo model of the 5 Series offers either a V8 twin-turbo, 4.4 liter 6 cylinder engine producing an impressive 400 horsepower from the 550ii model, or a turbocharged 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower which is borrowed from the 535i model. Both engine variations are integrated with an 8 speed automatic transmission.
